resources for injured pole dancers

I have recently had many chats about injuries, recovery and physiotherapy with my students as well as instructors alike.

It is deeply frustrating when I hear that people are continuously let down by professionals when it comes to pole dance.

PeachyPoler and many others have made good information posts on their Instagram about the disparities within the medical field when it comes SW, ethnicity & gender.

More related the discipline of pole, unfortunately, the statistics of injuries is terrifyingly high. Studies have shown that over 80% of pole dancers that have been dancing for 3 years+ have had at least one injury.

The Pole Physio has made some great information webinar about some of the potential causes for the high injury rates in pole. This includes a list of factors from anatomy, age to hypermobility, food intake, and many more.

Another person I think is awesome at shedding light on injury is Dr Emily Rausch. There are so many factors that are involved when we speak of injury & pole dance.

But when we do get injured, who do you we go to? Someone that understands the biomachanics of pole and its demands on the body.

The other day I reached out to my pole dance community about the positive experiences they have had with injury rehabilitation professionals so I have decided to compile a list of resources of UK based Physiotherapists that have had a good reviews from pole dancers

  • Body hub

https://bodyhubtherapy.co.uk/

I hope this helps anyone that is trying to find help with their injury.

Remember that an appointment with the physio is only the first step, we need to find out what is actually up with our bodies and then take the steps of rehabilitating, and strengthening.

Doing the exercises in your own time is key, as well as doing appropriate cross training to get stronger than where we were at the time of the injury. I personally like reformer Pilates as cross training, but there are many different sports out there that are fun and are great cross-training for any pole dancer.
