December 2023 - Happy Hips Course
Would you also like to get those delicious spreadies with your pancake shapes and middle splits and front splits?
Join my flexibility course to make our hips strong and bendy. We will be using a collection of active, dynamic, passive, and PNF techniques to unravel the potential of our hips. Students will have live feedback on their poses and adjustments will be made where required so you can get the most out of our time together.
This course is designed to give you the tools to build new habits for your flexibility so you can get the stretch gains that you deserve! Stretching twice a week is a great way to work on your bendy goals. Remember that it is consistency that will give you the outcomes you dream of.
This is an all-level friendly course, it does not matter where you start in your journey, everyone is welcome.
-
Session 1
In session one we visited the basics of hip hinges, using our glute (butt) muscles for our lunges and forward folds.
We did our first front splits and middle splits.
-
Session 2
In session, we put our focus on Pancakes and front splits in our first session. Active leg raises and rotations with a hint of flow mixed into these.
The focus was on adduction and abduction exercises to get us opening those legs into straddles.
-
Session 3
In session 3 we focused on active strength to hold our laying front splits, pancakes and middle splits.
We went through some flowy sequences involving internal and external rotations and leg lifts to strengthen the muscles of our hips.
-
Session 4
In session 4 we focused on hamstring strength and length, glute releases, straddles in many directions and our different splits.
We tried some laying and seated pancakes, pancake to middle split rock-ups and our floor jades.
We ended the session by playing around with our front splits. Have fun with it, put on a song that lights something in you and challenge your self to go into different splits when moving through space.
-
Session 5
In session 5 we tested our balance, squats side lunges, and glute releases to prep us for pancakes and middle splits.
We practiced how to get ourselves from a seated straddle to our middle splits, so we could better prep for our swim through (where we slide from pancake to middle split)
-
Session 6
In our last session, we started with some active leg work to wake and move our hips out. We covered glute stretches, hamstring stretches, and the different transitions from side lunge to front lunge in preparation for front split and middle split transitions.
We ended our session with front and middle splits, along with some glute releases.
Thank you for participating in this course. Please feel free to send any progress photos of your splits!
